About British Sterling Silver Hallmarks
For hundreds of years, sterling silver pieces produced in England have contained a series of hallmarks that indicate that it is indeed sterling silver, its maker, and the city and year in which it was made. The walking lion hallmark indicates that it is a sterling silver piece made in England (sterling produced in Scotland and Ireland have different hallmarks for this purpose), and symbols such as a Tudor rose or leopard’s head indicate the city in which the piece was made (Sheffield is the former, London the latter). A letter stamp indicates the year, and today there are many online resources that contain keys for interpreting this and the other hallmark stamps on British silver.

All Sales Final
All items available at Laney on the Hunt have been thoughtfully selected for their quality, beauty, age, and utility. Most have lived several lives before they make their way into my inventory, and as such, will show signs of use and wear appropriate for their age. I will do my best to share product photos that convey a clear and accurate representation of an item’s condition. Please be sure to carefully view each one, as due to the unique nature of antique pieces, all sales are final.
